How to calculate gas expenses for a trip?

To calculate the gas expenses for a car trip you only need three pieces of data: the total distance in kilometers, the vehicle's average fuel consumption in liters per 100 km, and the fuel price per liter. With them you can estimate the fuel cost of any route in seconds.

FORMULA:

Cost = (distance km × consumption L/100km ÷ 100) × price per liter

Practical example

A trip from Madrid to Barcelona covers about 620 km. With an average consumption of 6.5 L/100km and a fuel price of €1.55/L, the fuel cost would be 620 × 6.5 ÷ 100 × 1.55 = €62.47. Split among 4 passengers, each one would pay €15.62.

How to split expenses among several passengers?

The fairest split is proportional to the kilometers each passenger travels: whoever travels fewer kilometers pays less. Routly adds fuel, tolls and wear, and divides the total based on each person's kilometers, considering whether the driver takes part in the split.
